Singer/Songwriter dSteven delivers a powerful, yet smooth and unique singing style with musical influences from Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin. The creative grew up singing at church in San Diego, CA and matriculated from Howard University, where he was a lead vocalist for the world renowned Howard Gospel Choir.
After working with gospel music legends such as Dorinda Clark-Cole and Karen Clark-Sheard, the tenor vocalist channeled his experience through writing which led to studio recording.
The turning point of dSteven's career shifted into overdrive when his soulful, vocal chops caught the ear of The Legendary Queen of Soul...Aretha Franklin in 2005. The music powerhouse wasted no time making plans to launch the young R&B protege on her own label, but the superstar's recording obligations superceded the initiative with dSteven. Albeit disappointing, Franklin promised him she would re-engage in their initial efforts, once the contract with J Records had been fulfilled. Unfortunately, along the way progression of the unexpected prevailed. The icon slowly stepped away from the limelight of performances due to illness. Hopeful in her recovery, Franklin retreated from music at her doctor's request, but would later transition into heaven...leaving family, friends, and the world of music void of her regal presence.
dSteven continued to progress in music and became a member of the national recording gospel group " 7 Sons of Soul" from 2006-2008, and was a co-writer on the 2007 project "Witness." Having had the experience of sharing the stage with many artists across multiple genres, dSteven felt ready to release his 1st R&B single, the funk/dance groove "Turning Me On" from the 2020 debut album project "LOVE IS WAITING." dSteven has just released his new single "MORNING" now available on most digital outlets.
The heart-felt pallette of music from dSteven is a transparent overflow from the Creative's soul filled with passion, sensuality and energy. It continues to garner rave reviews, and is available on most digital platforms.
